Peoria is a suburb of Phoenix passed by two major traffic routes: US Highway 60 as well as Arizona State Road 101. Under the 101 at Thunderbird Road, the rehabilitation of a DN 400 PVC water pipe with a straight course and a length of about 400 metres became necessary. Since there should be just minimum impacts on traffic and residents, and rehabilitation with open trenches was not permitted, the City of Peoria decided on trenchless pipe rehabilitation with Primus Line®. It only requires small construction pits and traffic needs not be interrupted.
Apart from CPM, the civil engineering company CVL Consultants was involved in development and design. Execution and installation were in the hands of general contractor Achen Gardner. They excavated the construction pits and inserted the liner within only 16 minutes in the PVC host pipe. For mounting the connectors to the existing pipe, Achen Gardner was supported by a CPM expert. The team required in total five days for insertion, connection, pressure testing, disinfection and re-commissioning.
Thanks to the coordinated and efficient cooperation of all parties, the entire engineering project – from digging the first pit to paving and striping – was completed in two weeks. By being honoured with the “Judges Award” in the Arizona Heritage Center on 6 October 2018, the companies involved experienced recognition for their performance and the use of the innovative product Primus Line®.
